"I approach programming as a way to develop an editorial relationship with the imaginaries and realities that cinephilia invokes: how to create a corpus from what connects us to the world, how to assemble what seems dissimilar, to delve into where “thinking” happens, to encircle and clarify what drives movement, and to develop trajectories that, when exposed, might articulate not so much a personal sensibility but rather states of the world that observe and reinforce each other.

I'm captivated by the multiple ways a film’s making somatically dialogues with its motifs and subjects, and I often lean toward more artisanal practices. The “techniques of the body,” to use Marcel Mauss' concept, are often, sometimes even unconsciously, at the heart of what draws me in. Running, sleeping, walking, seeing, speaking, listening, feeling, breathing contain infinite processes, and when a filmic form embraces or more distinctly assumes this potential for inchoative and interstitial revelation, it seems to me to touch a crucial resistance against everything that seeks to mechanize us, against all forms of imposed politics."

Trained in art history, Maude Trottier divides her time between writing and editing, focusing on experimental, historical, and poetic forms of the image. She is editor-in-chief of the journal Hors Champ and editorial and project manager at the Société d’histoire et Centre d’archives de Laval. She also directs the Cul-de-lampe collection at Moult Éditions and has published Sous le figuier, a narrative poem illustrated by painter Cécile Ronc (Moult Éditions, 2023).
