"As what I refer to as podcast—due to a lack of better terms to describe radio art—rapidly gains popularity, audio documentary is quietly beginning to flourish in Quebec. Finally, new showcases, opportunities, and spaces are emerging. It was with great joy that I accepted Tënk's invitation to curate sound works.

Telling stories through sound unlocks its infinite evocative power, reminiscent of literature. The unparalleled creative freedom offered by this genre has become my preferred medium as a creator. As a listener, it has allowed me to explore places I'll never physically visit, conjuring images vivid enough to make me feel as if I am truly there, experiencing them firsthand.

To listen to the world and imagine it.

My fondness for this storytelling approach stems from its ability to teach—or perhaps re-teach, as we often forget—the value of long-form time and slowness. It offers a pause from the frantic pace that consumes us, one story at a time.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of listening to these creations with headphones, so as not to miss the intricate spatial work and subtle nuances. Even better, I recommend listening with headphones while doing nothing else, fully immersing yourself in each moment of this sound cinema."

Jenny Cartwright explores the themes of self-determination and inequalities through gentrification, activism, labor, and poverty. It is through her commitment to marginalized individuals and communities that she seeks to blend poetry with social manifestos. Constantly questioning how to tell stories, she moves from more traditional forms to experimental film, maintaining a steadfast dedication to documentary practice. Jenny has been curating audio documentaries on Tënk for several years.
