Jean-Philippe Desrochers
Curator

"When I think about which films to program, I always try to give pride of place to my favorites of recent years, whether they are recent documentaries seen in cinemas or films discovered in the course of my research. For me, Tënk is the ideal platform to showcase little-known or hard-to-find works."
Jean-Philippe Desrochers has been a critic for Séquences magazine since 2007, and is a member of the Association québécoise des critiques de cinéma (AQCC). He studied cinema, comparative literature and translation at the Université de Montréal. His main interests are American independent cinema (with a preference for films from the 1960s and 1970s), Quebec cinema and the emergence of Irish cinematography. Regarding documentaries, he has a penchant for biographical and historical works based on archival footage, and films devoted to cinema and the other arts (music, literature, photography). He has been working with Tënk since the launch of the Quebec version of the platform in 2020.
