Hubert Sabino-Brunette completed his PhD at the University of Montreal, where he also taught Quebec cinema. Fascinated by writings on cinema and films, his dissertation focused on film criticism published in Montreal newspapers in the 1920s, and his master's thesis examined the critical reception of Quebec cinema in Quebec film magazines of the 1960s and 70s. He is now the co-artistic director of RIDM (Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal) and is involved in the programming committees for Cinéma sous les étoiles and Cinédit screenings in Rivière-du-Loup, where he has been teaching the history of documentary film at EMCV since 2018. He has a particular fondness for cinematic works that explore the possibilities of cinema, while also appreciating documentaries with strong social and political content.
