Synopsis

Anna Eborn follows the lives of a group of teenagers in Transnistria, a country where the shadow of the Soviet legacy still looms menacingly. A meticulous, sensual portrait of a desire for hope and a better future, in a world where every day is a new challenge.

A word from Tënk

Here is the softness of the image's texture, that of 16mm film. The languor of a Rohmerian summer, where boredom and waiting by the river lead to amorous games. The character of Tanya, the only girl among the six boys, lingers for a long time, stubbornly moving forward with a sulky pout. And yet, age is cruel, as is society, whose muted violence and shadows hang over the group of idle friends. Until the arrival of autumn, which forces everyone to make a choice: to leave or to stay in the village. Swedish director Anna Eborn succeeds in capturing the nuanced, shimmering feelings of this forgotten youth on the outskirts of the former Soviet empire.
