Synopsis
Every year, at the beginning of the month of December, Marc-Antoine goes back to New York city in order to sell Christmas trees in the streets. From his little shack, he is witnessing the daily life of New Yorkers seeking the perfect Christmas ornament. This vantage point gives him an original view on American society and the different social class that compose it.
A word from Tënk
A portrait of a charismatic Quebecois Christmas tree seller based in Manhattan, this film provides a glimpse into the reality of this mysterious clandestine seasonal job that has become a tradition. Through the lens of this temporary rustic kiosk, the film offers a unique perspective on New York society and its wealth disparities. Adopting an approach that exposes the mechanics of filmmaking, the director establishes complicity with the people being filmed. This gives this short film a performative truth, skilfully arranged by a deft sense of storytelling. This holiday season, Trick or Trees might just bring out the Clark Griswold in you, or the Grinch…
