Mr. Kuo and his wife Mrs. Lin cook for the city’s sleepless. They work all night and sleep during the day, like many others in buzzing Taipei. Until one morning, riding back from the market, Mr. Kuo takes a different exit on the highway and goes to the sea…

Nicole Vögele observes the city with its fluorescent lights and never-silent soundscape with great calm. She alternates close-ups with wide angles and creates a hypnotic rhythm between conversations and the nightly silence. This kaleidoscopic journey relies on colours, sensations and sounds and is a cinematographic meditation on the in-between moments of which life consists. Viewers slide into a somnambulistic state of observation, which is further supported by the excellent soundtrack that seems to transport you directly into the middle of a tropical night in Taiwan.
