The films of Helena Třeštíková

Synopsis

Life hasn’t been easy on Mallory but after the birth of her son she tries desperately to kick her drug habit, and to stop living on the street. She wants to turn her back on her dark past and help those she knows best - people on the fringes of society

A word from Tënk

Like all of Helena Třeštíková's other films, this one is an impressive slice of life compression. The editing is fast-paced and nervous, always moving forward in time, in existence. This leap forward is the condition of hope for these dark fates. Mallory's life, marked by a rebellious youth spent involved between punk and skinhead movements, is about to take a new turn with the birth of her son. But the path is far from linear: it's tortuous and painful, and the encounters with men are particularly ill-fated. Social services and bureaucracy remind us that we're in the town of a certain Franz Kafka. But hope remains on the horizon, almost like a page from the gospel: to help herself, Mallory must help others.
