Synopsis
In 2017, author Elzéa Foule Aventurin engaged in a series of interviews with her granddaughter. Together, they retrace, not without mischief, a family history sailing from one end of the Black Atlantic to the other. A story of silence, pride and revolt.

"Le roi n’est pas son cousin" (The king is not his/her cousin) is a 17th-century French expression meaning someone is so happy, even a king wouldn’t deserve a place in their circle. In this documentary, filmmaker Annabelle Aventurin applies the expression to her grandmother and changes the "his" to "my." Elzéa Foule Aventurin indeed comes across as an accomplished, fulfilled person. Through a series of interviews, Elzéa, author of the book Karukera ensoleillée, Guadeloupe échouée (1980), recounts her family history. In front of her loving and respectful heir, Elzéa paints a mischievous and affectionate portrait of her family while addressing colonial issues, which specific textual ellipses will also highlight.
