Synopsis
Through the portraits, questions and preoccupations of young Quebecers aged 20 to 25, this documentary raises, often with humour, a reflection on Quebec society in 1988: family, couples, work, unemployment, creation, politics, the future, and so on. The director, for her part, embodies the 35-year-old generation, helping to measure how far we’ve come since the late 60s.

Does time inevitably drive a wedge between generations? In this documentary, filmmaker Sylvie Groulx, a young baby-boomer aged 35 in 1988, measures the gap that separates her from a group of Generation Xers in their twenties. Themes such as unemployment, capitalism, politics and feminism are addressed. Through the eyes of the filmmaker, we follow the loves, dreams and disillusions of the young protagonists as they struggle to project themselves into the future. At the heart of their questioning are their visions of the world and their desire to achieve a certain ideal. The flaws and strengths of the youth of a bygone decade are gradually revealed. "The farther back you look, the farther into the future you will see", said Churchill, illustrating the range of perceptions underlying the film.
