Synopsis

A snake on a bedspread, a mermaid on her throne. This 16 mm documentary poem turns the Florida Everglades into a theatre where nature takes back its rights from a decrepit civilisation.

A word from Tënk

Fern Silva’s Wayward Fronds presents an otherworldly vision of the Florida Everglades. Silva references several historical events that shaped the environment but also imagines a possible alternative future for this unique place. As nature seems to take over, _Wayward Fronds _creates an immersive cinematic environment asking the viewer to dream through space and time. The textured 16mm imagery and flowing sound design drift and overlap with ingenuity as Silva documents the world he comes upon and intertwines it with playful and creative interventions. A uniquely interesting place, both culturally and environmentally, gets refracted and reframed through the lens of an equally unique artist.
